In 1994 Nottingham City and County Council created The Greater Nottingham Partnership (GNP) with the aim of improving partnership working across the Greater Nottingham conurbation, and attracting more Government regeneration funding into the area. In April 2002 The East Midlands Development Agency (emda) invited GNP to become a Sub-regional Strategic Partnership (SSP) with the responsibility of helping to deliver the Regional Economic Strategy (RES). Following this, GNP devised the Sub-Regional Economic Strategy (SRES) Drawing Together: The Development Strategy for Greater Nottingham and in 2005 GNP published an update, ‘The Story Unfolds’, which responds to Nottingham becoming one of eight Core Cities. In both of these publications, developing learning, skills and employability are featured as a key regenerative priorities. As an SSP, GNP is responsible for delivering emda Single Programme funds (approximately £8m) against the priorities contained in the recently revised RES; A Flourishing Region (2005). Through their Sub-Regional Investment Plan (SRIP), the Greater Nottingham Partnership has outlined their spending plans until 2010. To faciliate this spend GNP has established 8 thematic Strategy Action Teams (SATs) to target resources. GNLP co-ordinates the SAT for Learning, Skills and Employability and aims to ensure that spending best supports the Skills Board Strategic Plan and its related activity. Further Information: -
