One Nottingham

One Nottingham’s City Strategy

Context & Aims

Following the publication of the Government’s Welfare Reform Green Paper: A new deal for welfare: Empowering people to work, cities across the UK were invited to submit Expressions of Interest to become a City Strategy pathfinder.

The primary aim of the City Strategy is to support those on inactive welfare benefits into sustainable employment, and to subsequently impact on the local employment rate so that collectively we move towards the Government’s national aspiration of 80%.

The Government recognizes that this can only be achieved through improved partnership working and changing the way local delivery is shaped.   Pathfinders have therefore been selected on their potential to discover more effective means of aligning local services and resources, and their innovative ways of progressing those on inactive benefits into employment.

Nottingham’s Response

In July 2006 Nottingham partners submitted an Expression of Interest for the City Strategy and have since been granted Pathfinder status.  Nottingham’s City Strategy is largely based on the innovation contained in our Making the Connection programme and partners are currently enhancing this model to ensure it can meet all of the City Strategy aims and objectives.  Download the MTC/City Strategy model (Annex I) below.

GNLP has continued to co-ordinate and develop the first draft of One Nottingham’s City Strategy Business Plan and this is currently being reviewed by DWP.
