Bestwood Access Centre

The new Access Centre, to be called the Southglade Access Centre, is programmed for completion at the end of October.  The Centre will house

  • Training rooms
  • A Surestart Centre with childcare for parents and trainees,
  • An Advice and Guidance Centre for employment, welfare rights and self-employment,
  • Accommodation for a number of community midwives
  • A café where trainees and members of the community can meet and socialise.
  • Bestwood Partnership will also be based in the Centre and will manage the training and advice services.

A Centre Manager and reception/administrative staff are currently being recruited. From the beginning of November onwards, staff will gradually move in and the Centre is expected to be fully up and running by the New Year.

The official opening of the new Centre will be on December 8th and also planned before Christmas are a Children’s pantomime on December 1st and a Celebrations event for parents on December 14th.

Two other adult training venues in the area, at Gladehill Primary School and Burford Primary School, are being provided with funding for equipment and minor building works to improve the training experience at their locations.

A feasibility study into the development of a training and employment portal for the Bestwood and Basford areas has now been completed and options for taking this forward are under consideration. The aim of the portal is to provide information for local people on where to access training and how to progress to other courses and levels.
